What is meet and greet parking and how does it work?

Here at Help Me Park, we’ve been parking cars for Gatwick Airport customers since 2005, so we sometimes forgot not everyone knows exactly what meet and greet parking is, and how it works.

So, we thought it was time to put together a simple guide to meet and greet (also known as valet) parking to help you decide if it’s the right airport parking choice for your next trip out of Gatwick Airport.

What is meet and greet or valet parking?

Meet and greet parking, also known as valet parking, is different to the park and ride style of airport parking, in that you don’t actually park your car in your chosen car park yourself.

Instead, you drive right up to the airport and a driver will meet you at the terminal and take your car away to be parked at another location.

Is meet and greet the same thing as valet parking?

Yes! Some people use the term meet and greet parking, while others prefer the term valet parking to describe the service we provide. It's exactly the same thing - both meet and greet and valet parking mean that the driver will meet you at the airport and take your car away to be parked securely at another location.

How does meet and greet parking work?

Once you’ve booked your meet and greet or valet parking online or by telephone, you will receive an email detailing exactly where to meet your driver at the airport.

When you choose meet and greet parking from Help Me Park, a member of our driving team will meet you in the approved meet and greet operators area. Simply drive to the relevant terminal (we operate at both north and south terminals at Gatwick Airport), following signs for the Passenger Drop Off.

At the south terminal, drive to the orange area and park in the last lay-bys at the end.

At the north terminal, take the right hand lane and drive between the Sofitel Hotel and the central reservation.

Whichever terminal you are at, just park up at the relevant location specified above and your driver will meet you there.

How do I get my car back from my meet and greet provider when I return from my trip?

Don’t worry, once you land you will be reunited with your vehicle before you know it!

Once you’ve collected your luggage, give us a call on our 24/7 contact number which was provided on booking.

Then, using the map we will have given to you when you arrived, follow directions to Passenger Drop Off & Collection – it’s signposted!

You’ll find your car where you left it – and our driver will wave you off on your journey home J

Why should I choose meet and greet parking instead of park and ride airport parking?

Different kinds of airport parking work best for different people. We find that people who choose our valet parking at Gatwick are looking for convenience, above all other factors.

Customers who choose meet and greet parking time after time love the convenience of driving right up to the airport without the hassle of finding their car park, checking in and waiting for a transfer bus to transport them to the airport.

They want to get straight into the airport and start their holiday in style (who can blame them!) – and that’s exactly what happens when you opt for valet parking.

Other people simply want to find the cheapest parking at Gatwick Airport and don't mind waiting for transfers to the airport. For those customers, park and ride is a great option and if this is the case for you, you can book cheap Gatwick parking with our sister company, Cophall Parking Gatwick, right here.

How do I know if an operator is approved to provide meet and greet parking at Gatwick?

We understand that handing over your car keys to a stranger is a big deal, and it’s not a decision you want to take lightly. Horror stories of rogue operators do appear and this is a scary prospect for so many of us.

When searching for meet and greet or valet parking at Gatwick Airport, there are a few ways you can check if a company can be trusted with your car.

Firstly, you can check a provider is approved by Gatwick Airport itself. Back in 2013, Gatwick Airport set up the Approved Operators Scheme to help customers check which car parking companies are vetted and verified by the airport itself, and eliminate rogue operators.

Therefore, when searching for valet parking, you can check a company is an official provider by visiting the Gatwick Airport website, where you can find a list of car parking operators who are part of the Approved Operators Scheme.

What other security credentials should I look for when searching for Gatwick meet and greet parking?

The ParkMark scheme is another way of checking your chosen car park is approved and secure. This scheme sees the local police actually visit car parks to carry out a full risk assessment.

A specially trained crime prevention officer will check the car park has the correct planning permission, insurance, management procedures and safety measures to protect customers and their vehicles.

The type of security measures examined include CCTV, security lighting, perimeter fencing, gates, alarms and patrols.

Check here to find out if a car parking operator is ParkMark approved.

Are there any other consumer schemes in place for airport parking customers?

Trading Standards operates a Buy With Confidence scheme, of which trusted airport parking companies can become members, subject to successfully passing a stringent inspection process.

To qualify, the company will undergo a full audit to vet their customer complaints history, make sure all drivers are CRB checked, examine all terms and conditions, ensure staff training and procedures are up to standard and check all claims made on a company’s website are correct.

Help Me Park is a member of the Trading Standards Buy With Confidence scheme. Check if a company is a member of the scheme here.
