Gatwick flight and travel news February 2016

Gatwick Pier 5
Gatwick’s new £80 million Pier 5 was officially opened by Caroline Ansell MP on 2 February.

The new pier enables Gatwick to handle an extra 30 flights per day, approximately 4,200 passengers per day, compared to the old pier 5.

One of the fastest growing airports in Europe
After a record-breaking January 2016, and Gatwick's 35th consecutive month of passenger growth, Gatwick was named one of Europe's fastest growing airports by the Airport Council International Europe.

Terminal reshuffle
Gatwick’s terminal reshuffle has been delayed until January 2017.

The reshuffle will see British Airways' flights operate exclusively from Gatwick’s South Terminal, while all easyJet's and Virgin's will all operate from the North Terminal.

The move was due to take place in November 2016.

easyJet has suspended all summer flights to Sharm El Sheikh from Gatwick, Luton and Manchester Airports.

All flights to the airport were suspended on 4 November 2015 after a bomb was smuggled on board a Russian flight.
