Gatwick Express Christmas cancellations and delays
As millions of us set off to spend time with family and friends over the festive season, many public transport service providers, such as Network Rail, are set to upgrade their infrastructure, which could lead to disruptions, delays and even cancellation of services.
It is advisable to research your route to the airport well in advance of travel, regardless of how you plan to get there, particularly if you plan to use rail services.
One of the most popular ways to get to Gatwick Airport for people living in and around London is the Gatwick Express. However, in the weeks leading up to Christmas the Gatwick Express will not be operating as usual – it will be forced to operate at a much slower speed, to allow for essential engineering works - and is advising passengers that times between London and Gatwick Airport will be slow. Other rail services in and out of London will also be very slow.
Gatwick Express has also axed its service for the entire Christmas week, from 26th December until 2nd January. Therefore, no Gatwick Express trains will be running between London Victoria and Gatwick Airport. What’s more, as a result of line closures, other train services to Gatwick Airport will also be affected:
- The First Capital Connect services between Gatwick and East Croydon will see diversions - passengers must get a train from East Croydon to East Grinstead, and then catch a bus to Gatwick Airport
- Southern is predicting journey times between London Victoria and Gatwick will be 90 minutes over the Christmas period due to rail replacement buses: trains will travel from London Victoria to East Grinstead then buses will operate to Gatwick Airport.
If the thought of extended delays and bus replacement services fill you with dread, you've still time to consider booking Gatwick meet and greet airport parking – check out our Facebook page for details of our Christmas parking discount code.
