FCO Launches #holidaywin NOT #holidayfail Campaign
As many young travellers look to take their first mates holiday abroad, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) is reminding young travellers to stay safe with a new campaign.
The ‘#holidaywin this summer NOT a #holidayfail’ is a digital campaign to engage the younger generation whilst away, but most importantly, getting them to stay safe.
It sets them the challenge of having holiday wins – like having a great night out clubbing; rather than a holiday fail – such as spending the night in hospital because they’ve drunk too much.
DID YOU KNOW – the British Consulates in Ibiza and Palma dealt with scores of holiday fails last year affecting British travellers between the ages of 15 and 30 - 546 lost or stolen passports, 170 detentions, 38 hospitalisations, and 13 rape and sexual assault cases.
So, the #takeyourpic campaign is inviting the selfie-obsessed generation to take some great photos and share them on the FCO’s dedicated #holidaywin website, while getting them to think about staying safe whilst abroad.
What’s more, the campaign will be sending out lots of Facebook and Twitter updates from specific resorts, giving the very latest holiday and stay-safe advice – a blessing for worried parents. Warnings and tips, such as, taking care on balconies – not to clamber on rails etc., watching their drinks at all times to ensure they aren’t spiked and keeping money and passports safe.
ATTENTION – make sure the young traveller in your life has got adequate holiday insurance!
- It’s essential. It’s critical. It covers so much more than lost luggage.
- Remember too, water sports – even banana boats and jet skis – aren’t covered by conventional insurance, you need to specify that they’ll be taking part in water sports, adding this to the travel insurance cover.
There’s a page for each of the most popular holiday hotspots so travellers can post specifically to the pages.
