Air Passengers Confused Over Hand Luggage Allowances

It’s easy to be confused about what size of hand luggage you’re allowed to take on the plane. After all, hand baggage allowances vary from airline to airline, with one airline having one size and another has a completely different size.

Wouldn’t it be nice if ‘one case’ fitted all?

Airlines have a habit of changing their rules and regulations over hand luggage allowance, seemingly just after you’ve invested in the perfect case!

Even if you’re flying with the same airline as last year, don’t just assume that your hand luggage allowance is the same – always check.

Take easyJet, which has made some changes to their hand luggage allowance. The airline now has a guaranteed cabin baggage size and a maximum cabin baggage size – if the larger size doesn’t fit in the overhead lockers or under the seat in front of you, it will be placed in the aircraft hold.

If you’re one of the many travellers confused, you’re not alone!

Skyscanner, a leading online flight booker, recently carried out a survey about how their customers viewed hand luggage rules and a staggering 82% of them said they would like to see all airlines have the same hand luggage allowances. Nearly a quarter of the 1,000 Skyscanner customers polled said they had been caught out over sizing and had been forced to pay additional luggage fees because their hand luggage had to be checked in.

To help ease your confusion, Skyscanner has put together this extremely helpful guide to hand luggage sizes for the majority of short haul routes out of the UK to Europe with the most popular airlines which we thought we’d share with you:
