2015 Holiday Hot Spots Revealed

Now that the festive season and New Year celebrations are over, many of us are looking to book our annual holiday.

So which destinations will we be the most popular for holidays in 2015?

Mainland Spain is a firm family favourite, as are the Canary Islands and Balearics, however, ABTA, in association with the Foreign & Commonwealth Office, has revealed its predictions for the most popular and up-and-coming holiday hot spots for 2015 - you might be surprised.

According to ABTA, us Brits are feeling a little more adventurous this year and, as a result, it predicts that Austria, Botswana and Cuba will be at the top of our 2015 holiday hot spots. ABTA’s findings came from a poll of 2001 people last summer.

As well as popular holiday destinations, the poll also revealed that over the last few years British holidaymakers have been playing it rather safe when it comes to holidays.

This year, however, many are seeking out adventure and new horizons with 35% expected to holiday in a country they have never before visited.

Of those polled, 20% said they were prepared to spend more on a holiday this year than before, while 15% wanted to spend less.

The list of top 10 2015 holiday destinations complied by ABTA is:

  1. Austria
  2. Botswana
  3. Cuba
  4. Dominican Republic
  5. Japan
  6. Latvia
  7. La Gomera
  8. Norway
  9. Pacific Coast
  10. USA

The travel industry has been extremely buoyant in recent years, at a time when some industries are struggling. The travel market has seen a real upturn, clearly showing that us Brits might be prepared to shop around for groceries and go out less, but we are not prepared to forego our annual holiday. In fact, the survey found that on average, people took 3 holidays each last year (with the more affluent social demographic A class taking 4.7 holidays each).

City breaks are seeing a real surge in popularity, overtaking traditional beach holidays. What’s more, holidaymakers want more authentic, realistic holiday experiences; they want to see, feel, live and breathe the way of life of the locals of the country they are visiting.

So the question is, will you be a little more adventurous this year and go somewhere outside of your comfort zone, or will you be content with your firm favourite?

Wherever you’re headed this year, have a happy holiday and don’t forget us for your meet and greet parking.
