Jabs and injections for travel abroad. |
What vaccinations should I arrange before I leave from Gatwick Airport ? |
| The vaccinations you need depend on which country you are travelling to. You should make an appointment with your GP or practice nurse to discuss where you are travelling to, when (what season) and travel duration. |
| |
For example: |
In Brazil you will need hepatitis A, diphtheria, and yellow fever, and you may need typhoid, hepatitis B, rabies, and tuberculosis as well.
In Thailand you will need typhoid, hepatitis A, diphtheria, and you may need hepatitis B, rabies and tuberculosis as well.
In Japan you are unlikely to need any vaccinations unless you are going to remote areas. In this case, you may need Japanese B encephalitis and hepatitis B.
In other countries in Africa, there is a risk of catching malaria, so see your GP or pharmacist for advice on malaria tablets.
If you are travelling in the EU you should be fine , but don’t forget your EHIC registration, and a chat with your GP would never go amiss. |
| |
| If possible, see your GP at least three months before you are due to travel as some jabs need to be given well in advance. As well as any new vaccinations have booster jabs if necessary for polio and tetanus. |
